Clean India programme is a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities with broader goal to eradicate the practice of open defacation.

APPROACH & FUNCTIONING
- Construction of 14000 toilets daily.
- Present growth in no. of toilets is 3% of the households which would be tripled to 10%'
- Community led total sanitation(CLTS)
- communities are facilitated to conduct their own appraisal and motivate them to completely eliminate open defecation.
- NGO based approach creating awareness followed by handholding and actual training.
- Strong emphasis on information ,education and communication (IEC),capacity building and hygiene for effective behaviour change.
- Involvement of panchayati raj institutions ,all government departments & mass participation of people.
- 8.84 crore household have to be covered with individual toilets in next 5 years till 2019.
- Water pipelines have to be laid to all villages enabling tap connection into household
